Festival Del Gaucho 2024 Recap

On Saturday, March 9th, 2024, we transformed Green Moustache in North Sydney into a vibrant hub of Argentine culture, delighting attendees with a festival that showcased the rich heritage and traditions of Argentina. From the Asado to the tango lessons to the live Latin American music, the event offered a memorable experience for all who participated.

The Food

The festival began with the aroma of the Asado drifting through the venue. Traditional cuts such as beef ribs were a guest favourite alongside Choripan and succulent steak. Another hit were the premium empanadas from Empanadas Che and Medialunas from local Argentine producer Gaston Camerman, as well as banana splits with dulce de leche ice cream. Dishes were paired with robust Argentinian wines from Accuro Wines, Catena Zapata and Jasmine Monet, as well as of course, Fernet Branca and Coke. Certainly, the flavors of Argentina were celebrated in every way throughout the day.

Live Music and Dance

The rhythmic beats of Argentine music filled the air as talented musicians kicked off the day with live music, filling the venue with the sounds of tango, folk, and traditional melodies. We hosted two tango lessons from Ruedisima Latin Dance Co and Sydney Tango Collective throughout the day as well as ‘milonga’, a social tango dance party in the afternoon. Guests were captivated by the beautiful dancing and the whole venue was stunned by the incredible live performance from Anna Griffiths and Belen Silva in the evening, the performance stopping everyone in their tracks to admire the stunning display of Argentine culture.

Argentinian Produce and Cultural Exhibits

In addition to the culinary and entertainment offerings, the festival also featured a marketplace showcasing Argentinian produce and cultural exhibits highlighting the diverse heritage of Argentina. Guests had the opportunity to purchase alfajores, dulce de leche, mate cups, Yerba mate and amazing olive oil produced at the foot of the Andes from Fernando from The Argentinian Market. Lucia, an abstract artist from Buenos Aires in Argentina created a live piece of art throughout the day reflecting the rich heritage of Argentina. Attendees were glued to the process, watching as the layers evolved and ending up creating a prized piece of art, which one lucky festival goer won at the end of the day.

La Cena

As part of the festival, we hosted a three course Argentinian inspired dinner featuring empanadas from Empanadas Che, molleja, morcilla, Asado, flan with dulce de leche and queso y dulce, all accompanied by a glass of Argentinian Jasmine Monet sparking on arrival followed by free flowing Accuro Malbec, Pulenta Estate Pinot Gris, Fernet Branca and Coke and Balter Cervesa Beer. The candlelit dinner was hosted in our private sky room, complete with retractable roof and balcony overlooking North Sydney. Guests were delighted with a private tango performance and enjoyed the evening with the melodies of folklore music and the hum of dinner party conversation filling the room.

Community Spirit and Celebration

Above all, the festival was a celebration of community spirit and cultural exchange, bringing together people from all walks of life to share in the joy of Argentine culture. Whether dancing the night away, savoring delicious Argentine bites or engaging with artisans and performers, attendees embraced the festive atmosphere with open hearts and minds, forging connections and memories that will last a lifetime.

Looking Ahead

As the festival drew to a close, attendees departed with hearts full of fond memories and a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of Argentine culture. The event served as a reminder of the power of community, connection, and celebration in bringing people together across borders and cultures. With hopes for future gatherings and continued cultural exchange, we at Green Moustache look forward to many more festivities that celebrate the beauty and diversity of the global community.
